How Saturday went in our house....

Sparky had an early morning basketball game so we bundled and loaded the crew and headed to the next town over to play against another group of Catholic youngins. Mind you, it was all of 9 degrees out yesterday morning, so it was sure to be a chilly morning in the gym.

The game was played with all the zeal and passion a group of 5 and 6 year olds can muster. No score was kept, but lots of shots were taken and much dribbling was practiced.

After the game we headed out to the car to make our way home. It was now a relatively balmy 17 degrees outside. I decided it would be a good idea to warm up the car and get the heat cranking, so I had hubby toss me the keys and I started the car and blasted the heat to about 80 degrees.

And here dear friends, is where the Saturday-as-usual part of our day ends.

Somehow between starting the car and leaning back out of the driver's seat, I managed to unknowingly lock the car. I say unknowingly because I didn't notice until I slammed the door shut and tried opening the back door to let the boys in to their seats.

Did I mention is was 17 degrees outside? And that I grew up in Florida, where 17 degrees is not a normal temperature???

So there we were standing outside our locked, running (and might I add, warm and toasty) car with all our of friends having left the gym already and me without my cell phone as it was comfortably home on its charger.

Definitely a recipe for fun.

In the end it all worked out fine. I borrowed a phone from a family at the next game. I even managed to remember one friend's number and actually caught them at home. We devised a plan to pick up our spare key from our neighbor and after watching two extra basketball games we made it home just fine.

Thankfully our neighbor with the key was home and we have good friends around willing to lend a hand. Thankfully the gym was still open and other games were being played so we weren't stuck in the cold. And thankfully, I had just filled up the car with gas so even though it ran for over an hour, it didn't run dry (although we didn't do much to help CO2 emissions yesterday, that's for sure).

We arrived home, figured out a plan for lunch and I promptly fell asleep in the comfy chair with Tres on my lap. Obviously a morning like that calls for a well deserved nap. Sometimes nothing else will do.

Goodness that sounds like something I'd do! Are we getting senile in our old age?

Old age? I've been locking myself out of cars since I learned to drive. Once I locked my kids (babies) in the car! Thank goodness there was a cop on the other side of the parking lot, since I was in a bad neighborhood.
