days to remember

Over the weekend we were invaded by paleontologists, knights in shining armor, metro riders, skydivers, football players, Native American Indians, artists, gallery owners, pirates, ninjas, teachers, students and baseball players.

And you thought you had a busy weekend!

All I can say is that it has been pure joy to watch my boys run around and create their own worlds with each other. There have been a few minor squabbles as they've dug for dinosaur teeth and held art exhibits---but overall they have been lost in their imagination. I'm lucky enough to have overheard bits and pieces of their days; the laughing, giggling, whispering and scheming. In this world sticks are muskets, swords and, baseball bats; backpacks are parachutes, briefcases, and armor.

Youth may be fleeting, but the dog days of summer are just long enough for them to imagine all the places they want to visit; to pretend they are people from far away lands, with exciting and adventurous jobs.

Ten years from now, they might not remember these days, but I'm pretty sure I'll count them as some of my favorite ones.
