Time to 'fess up

Here's what I've really been up to this summer.

It is terribly exciting....are you sure you can handle it???

I've decided to stop coloring my hair.

Shocking. I know.

Stand back. Stop the presses. Here comes the gray. Or grey. Which is it really?

Anyway, if you will allow me a bit of naval gazing, here is the back story. My hair is short and very dark. I've always thought of it as a dark brown, but as I'm seeing it again without any added color, it is mucher closer to black. Funny, I never thought it was.

I've known for a few years that quite a few greys were mixed in there, but I had found a great stylist in Maine AND a good home color for back up. What more could a girl want? But then I read more and more about going natural. And it began to intrigue me.

She recently did it. Here is her beautiful reveal!

So did she, and wrote a book in the process. More on the book later.

I had always been happy with my coloring and colorists, but after much reading and thinking (and realizing that I HATE the process of home coloring and I can't afford DC prices for salon color), I started to consider seeing just how much grey was hiding in there. With such short hair, I have always had to do something every three to four weeks or it just looks tacky and I am wayyy to vain to go with tacky. Tacky maybe in my clothes, in my attitude, but not my hair.

To be continued.....

Denise, I am so touched that you think my hair looks good. I admit I have gotten quite a few compliments -- many people say it looks platinum, whatever that is. It was a six month process, not a minute shorter -- but so worth it. I have said from the beginning that the only thing that would have me coloring again would be if someone mistakes me for my husband's mother. I may not even go back for that now, but I do think I would cry! If only he would get a few more grays to match. Right now he in suntanned and thin (from painting the house) and I am pale and gray. I think I'll stay away from him in public for a while!

That's so funny because I'm doing the same thing!! My hair will be closer to Anne Kreamer's, though - it's really far gone!
