Too much introspection is never a good thing, and for the past weeks (months now maybe) I've been wallowing around in my own thoughts. I'm sure it's why I've blogged less. I'm sure there's more to analyze and discuss, but nah, not tonight. I'm saving all that for some monster posts later.
Tonight I want to talk about going to the pool. A very Virginia thing to do (or so I'm told). Growing up in Florida everyone had a pool or knew a neighbor who did; that's just the way it was. So I was surprised when we moved here that so many neighbors talked about "joining the pool." It sounded so very country club, so la-ti-da (is that how you spell that...is it la-de-da??? I don't know...for my hometown girls, it sounded very Royal Oak or La Cita). And yet, why should I be surprised? Certainly since moving here, I have felt like I've gone back to the Brady Bunch era. Houses from from the 60's and 70's, kids still playing free range in the neighborhood, neighbors who actually (GASP) know each other and socialize. Some days it feels a little Stepford-ish but for the most part, it's pretty darn cool.
So we joined the pool. When in Rome, do as the Romans and all that.
Tonight was our first foray into the pool scene and I was a tiny bit nervous. Would it be fancy-schmancy? Could we pass as "pool types?" I'd never lived in a place where people joined the pool, but apparently here in Virgin-ja (as Tres likes to call it), it's pretty common. Lots of neighborhoods have pools and lots of people join them, not just the rich and fabulous.
So yeah, we're pool people. The boys and I had a great time. There were tons of kids there, everyone was welcoming and the pool was big enough for everyone to have fun, but not so big I couldn't manage my crew on my own. Totally fun....the good feeling where the minute you walk in, you think to yourself, "Man, that was a good investment for the summer!"
Summer sun, a warm breeze and the ice cream truck in the neighborhood. Maybe all the introspection was just the last bit of the winter blahs. There still may be a monster post one day, but for now, I'm looking forward to the next few months at the pool.

They are talking about building a public pool here in Tiny Town but it will likely be indoor and you wouldn't believe the rules - everyone must wear caps, boys must wear speedos, etc. (I don't know what they think boys are hiding in their board shorts!) But still, a pool!
Enjoy!!
I will never forget the time I jumped off your diving board and your father was under it!!! I clocked him right in the skull. OUCH!! Or the first time I spent the night and we got New York Seltzer all over the newly refinished kitchen cabinets. I thought for sure I would never be invited back!
I miss our pool :o( We are thinking about joining the Y. La Cita and Royal Oak are too much $$ for me. Enjoy the pool with the munchkins. We all want to see pictures ;P
