So, I promised a weekend update, let me get to it before I completely forget how relaxing it was.
The short version is that my best friend from college was looking to get away for a few days before she welcomes baby #4 into the world. The much longer version is below, but basically her plan became our plans.
Originally her plan was a for a few days alone visiting historic sights, so she tried booking hotels near her home. Unfortunately, she couldn't find a good place with a good deal.
I sensed a chance to get in on her good deal and suggested a girls weekend in the Northeast. So she tried Boston at my suggestion, figuring maybe we could meet up as it isn't too far to get there from here. Alas, no luck. And then at the last minute we tried looking for flights and hotels here in Maine. Site59.com turned out to be a wonderful blessing! We found her a great flight and a nice hotel and suddenly her weekend away, became OUR weekend away.
My wonderful and amazing hubby had no idea that a girls' weekend was in the works until late Thursday night. Heck we didn't know it until late Thursday. He was just fantastic about it though!! Sent us off with good wishes for a great time. Bless him.
We spent lots of time eating and talking and seeing the sights of southern Maine. We caught up on EVERYTHING, we went to mass. I crocheted, she relaxed, we talked and ate some more. We just enjoyed our time together. Even though it was super short, it was so very needed. I realized that except for giving birth, I really hadn't ever been away from my boys, so having even one night to just be Denise, instead of Mom, was really good for my soul.
So honestly, I'm not trying to brag or rub it in that we had a break. I'm just sharing the joy. Thanks be to God for good deals on last minute airfare, for understanding families who let us run away for a few hours and for the blessings of friendship. We had warm weather, sunny skies and some good shopping. We had a chance to reconnect and to recharge. And we needed it!!
