Some of you may have noticed my links section is titled CCD for moms. I write that, because as a CCD graduate myself, I find I have so much to learn about my faith and Catholicism. The blogs I link to are ones where I find myself saying, "Wow! I had no idea!" quite frequently. I'm learning so much about my the rich history of our faith, about holidays, holy-days and feasts, about penance and sacrifice.
It almost makes me wish I had gone to Catholic School.
I'm not sure however, that even if I did learn all these things in school that they would have stuck at the time. Or that they would have the same significance that they do now. Becoming a mom challenged and increased my faith in ways I never could have imagined before. Now when I learn things about Catholicism they help me to understand more about my vocation as a mom, more about how to have a healthy family prayer life, more about things I need and want to pass on to my boys.
So yes, Post-Vatican II CCD may have been a bit lacking when it comes to the fundamentals. But in some ways, not being forced to learn about my faith has made me all the more hungry to find good information that is relative to where I am now on my journey.
Where do you ask, does all of this come from on this lovely spring afternoon? Just reflecting on Monday's feast day, because honestly, I had no idea about it. And now I do. And we did a few cool things to acknowledge it in our family. And I just think its cool to still be learning about something I've been part of all my life.
