More interesting thoughts from Fr.Don Bosco....
The Wise Men were the first "proof" ( I don't think Father used the word proof, but you get the idea) that Jesus came to save everyone. Until they arrived, Jesus as the Son of God had only been revealed to Jews. But along came three foreigners who were obviously not Jews and voila....they knew Jesus to be a King as well.
Also, Father mentioned that out of everyone in the bible, we should feel a close understanding with the Wise Men. They were late, they were wandering around, they weren't sure they were even on the right path, they were given bad advice from Herod. Who among us hasn't felt stressed, anxious and confused about our path in the world? Who hasn't wondered who we should trust, what we should believe. But in the end, what did they do? They knelt down to adore the baby Jesus. We can all relate to the Wise Men's struggles. Perhaps we can resolve in the New Year to imitate the way they spent quiet time with God.
I'll never think of the Wise Men in the same way again---For all these years, I just thought they were showing up to bring gifts. Who knew?
And on that note, have I mentioned that Father Don Bosco, Father Peter and Father Jim are pretty darn cool? After a few pretty dry years, we've finally found a parish where I regularly find meaning and inspiration in the weekly homily. I honestly think that my prayerlife is improving because they give me something to focus on and reflect upon each week. And I am so very thankful for that.
Happy Three Kings Day!
