Yes, Jesus came to earth to save us from our sins, but that was the "work" part of him.
And to only look at the work, neglects a bigger part of the story.
According to Father Jim, God would have sent Jesus (even if we didn't need salvation) simply because he loves us. And just as when you are away from someone you love, you wish you were with them, the same applies here. God loves us each so much that he wanted to be with us.
So Jesus came to save us all, but the heart of the story of God becoming Man, is just how much God truly loves us.
