Last night our street had an old-fashioned block party. Nothing fancy, they just sent out invitations with instructions to bring an entree, sidedish or dessert based on your house number and to meet in the yard of the house with the double lot.
It was wonderful!!!
I'd say about half of the street attended and I met several neighbors I'd never met before. The party was supposed to go from 4-7, but people were standing around visiting and talking well past that.
I think what I enjoyed the most was seeing all of the inter-generational visiting going on. It was so cool to see the empty nesters talking with the newlyweds and the young parents visiting with the elder statesmen of the block.
The kids had a three legged race and spent a good portion of the evening in giggle fits over a whoopee cusion, they played soccer and climbed trees all while the adults sat around and just chatted.
It was just a really nice evening. One of those, "gosh I'm glad we live in Maine" moments.

That sounds so nice!! Wish our neighborhood would do something like that, but I'm not holding my breath lol. We've been here since May and I met the first neighbor last week.
